Memory Lane

Today I had an lovely phone conversation with one of my best friends that I’ve known since high school. As background, during middle school and early high school we moved around quite a bit and I didn’t end up starting at the high school I graduated from until a couple months into my sophomore year. I was only there until the end of my junior year, at which point I started only taking classes at my community college (through a program we have in Washington where juniors and seniors can take college classes full or part-time). Based on these things and the fact that when I left high school I left that social circle, I really only keep in touch with two people in my graduating class, both of whom I still consider my best friends (other than C). Anyway, today we were reminiscing about people and events that took place during that time frame and it was fun/funny to think back to that time in light of everything that’s transpired since then.
Then I read this Music Meme from A New Day and decided to try it out.

The Rules: A.) Go to Music Outfitters. B.) Enter the year you graduated from high school in the search function and get the list of 100 most popular songs of that year. C.) Bold the songs you like, italisize the ones you REALLY hate. (And I’m adding, note the ones you’ve never even heard of… because I’m seeing quite a few of those!)

I’m not sure if my preferences are based on nostalgia or actual enjoyment of the song, but those are the titles I recognize and believe that I know how the song goes. There are a lot of titles that I don’t recognize (but I also don’t pay much attention to titles of songs and often ask C who it’s by and what the title is when I like a song). I also know I haven’t heard most of those songs since then and that my decision to highlight them is most likely just the result of major airtime back in 2001. Either way it was a fun and unexpected trip down memory lane.
